Solution Focused Hypnotherapy: Why it Works

I empower people to make sense of their brains and how our minds work. Because when we know how something works, we can use it more effectively and get the best out of it—our minds included. So when you understand your brain, everything feels easier—it’s like having a manual you can return to whenever you need it. You begin to see why you think and feel as you do, and gaining this insight unlocks incredible potential for creating the changes you want.

And when you understand how your brain works, it makes perfect sense why hypnotherapy can be so effective…

    The science behind feeling better

This powerful combination of Solution Focused Hypnotherapy and Mindset Support is firmly rooted in science. The results can sometimes feel magical—but the real magic is the human brain and its incredible ability to change and adapt.

    Our amazing brains

I don’t have a magic wand, and I don’t need one. Your brain already has everything it needs to create the changes you want, thanks to neuroplasticity—our brain’s natural ability to rewire, adapt, and strengthen new patterns of thought and behaviour. So that you can feel calmer happier and more confident.

    The Subconscious

Did you know that over 90% of our thoughts, emotions, and behaviours are influenced by the subconscious mind? This is why it can often feel as though our feelings, actions, and reactions are beyond our control—making it hard to create change, even when we really want to.

This is why, when we use hypnotherapy to work with the subconscious, we can influence our mindset—and positive lasting change becomes much easier.

Hypnotherapy FAQS

  • Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is a modern, brain-based approach that combines relaxed hypnosis with forward-looking conversations. It draws on evidence-based psychotherapy, neuroscience, and elements of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), and Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT).

We won’t spend time analysing the problem or unpicking the past — instead, the focus is on how you’d like to think, feel, and live, while hypnosis works with your subconscious to support those positive changes.

  • Each session has two parts. First, we’ll talk about what’s been good and the positive changes you’d like to see in how you think, feel, and live. Then comes the relaxing hypnosis, where you simply get comfortable and listen to my voice, giving your subconscious mind the space to start making those positive changes.

  • Most people find that around 6–12 sessions is a good guide — sometimes more, sometimes less, depending on your goals and what feels right for you. Progress is different for everyone, and you’ll always be the one to decide how many sessions feel right for you. Listening regularly to my relaxation recording will support the work we do together and help you get the most out of your sessions.

  • I offer sessions in person or online — so I can work with clients anywhere in the world.

I offer sessions in person in Dawlish, as well as online. Both work just as well, so you’ll get the same positive results whichever you choose — it’s simply about what feels right for you.

Many people love online sessions because they’re so convenient: no travel, no parking, and you can be in the comfort of your own home. Everyday sounds around you aren’t a problem either (I once worked with a client whose dog barked all through trance — but because they were used to it, it made no difference at all!) Others prefer the change of scenery and like to see me in person. I offer in-person appointments from my home in Dawlish.

Whichever you choose, you’ll be supported in the same way, and your subconscious will do exactly what it needs to.

  • Hypnosis is nothing mystical or magical—it’s simply a calming process where you make yourself comfortable and listen to my voice as I guide you into a relaxed state.

  • ‘Trance’ is just another word for this relaxed state. It’s completely natural, and you already drift in and out of trance every day—like when you’re driving a familiar route or doing a familiar task on autopilot, daydreaming, or getting lost in a good book.

  • Not at all. You’ll only ever take on suggestions that fit with your own wishes and values—nothing else. Hypnosis is always a safe, gentle, and collaborative process, and you remain fully in control throughout.

  • Not a pocket watch in sight! — you’ll simply rest back, get comfortable, and let my voice guide you as you relax into a state of calm. Sometimes you’ll notice everything I say, and other times your mind might wander — that’s completely fine. What matters is that your subconscious is listening and gently doing the work in the background.

  • There’s no “right” or “wrong” way to experience hypnosis. Your mind and body will do what’s right for you, and you’ll relax as much as you need. Sometimes people feel very aware, other times deeply calm, and both are equally effective. Your subconscious will still be doing its thing, regardless of what your conscious mind is up to.

  • Solution Focused Hypnotherapy can have a powerful impact. You don’t even need to “believe” in it for it to work — being a little sceptical is absolutely fine. What matters most is your desire to get the results you want, and your commitment to the process by showing up and prioritising your sessions. Although, like any therapeutic approach, I can’t offer guarantees, the combination of your commitment and the power of the subconscious can bring about real and positive change — and my client testimonials say it better than I ever could.
